Life Story Coaching to Navigate the Holiday Blues: Finding Peace, Purpose, and Healing During the Festive Season

Festive music and food; glitzy parties with family, friends, and colleagues; sparkling decorations, and greetings of good cheer! Winter holidays can be the most wonderful time of the year. But holidays can also usher us into those feelings of sadness and that sense of being on the outside looking in, often called the holiday blues.

People may experience the holiday blues when they:

  • lack sleep

  • eat or drink too much

  • are lonely or cannot be with family and friends

  • have lost a loved one

  • experience conflicts and feuds within their family or friend group

  • overextend themselves financially

  • are stressed from extra pressure at work or at home

  • set exceedingly lofty expectations to do wonderful things for others

  • have unrealistic expectations of nonstop fun and cheer that just cannot be met

Now more than ever it is so important to give ourselves some grace such as prioritizing restful sleep, healthy eating, and exercise. Setting boundaries is important at work, at home, and with friends. Focus time and energy on where and with whom it means the most to you. Social media often provides a skewed perspective on the lives of others and can cause us to feel that our lives are lacking, so limit its use.
